Hello friends and family I pray that you’re doing well. As a volunteer of Chima Medical Missions Inc (www.Chimamedicalmissions.com) and the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas (www.anpa.org), I just returned from a very successful medical/surgical/dental mission to Edo state, Nigeria in conjunction with the Edo State government and other partners. It was from April 22-May2, 2022 and a brief summary follows.
The Diaspora team included 65 volunteers from various specialties- internal medicine, family medicine, cardiology, nephrology, infectious disease, GI, psychiatry, pediatrics, emergency medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, nursing, optometry, ophthalmology, orthopedic, neurosurgery, general surgery, laparoscopic surgery, head & neck surgery, maxillofacial surgery, OBGYN, pediatric surgery, Residents, Covid team, medical students etc.
This was the first medical mission since the Covid-19 pandemic, and the largest so far in the 27 year history of ANPA!
We saw almost 10 thousand patients and performed 300 surgeries! Many lives were changed for the better for free and we have ongoing follow up using Tele-Health platform now.
We held educational sessions including Helping Babies Survive, Basic Life Support, Covid info, testing and vaccination, and “Brain drain is now Brain gain.”
Our Advocacy activity took us to the capital where we met the Vice President and advocated for increased national health budget, increasing access to the national insurance plan and making conditions conducive for healthcare providers.
Attached are some pictures. We thank God for safety and thank you for your prayers and financial support that aided our success.
Remain blessed, Cliff Eke, MD, FACS
